I was excited to see the demo for the upcoming PS4 Silent Hill game, Silent Hills. Also the concept trailer looks very impressive. I think this one could knock all the other recent survival horror games out of the water. Looks like they're trying to step things up a notch. Check it out. #Silenthills

Bill Nye explains evolution using emoji
So, that wacky Bill Nye did something cool this week. This isn't my usual horror/sci-fi themed update, but I just couldn't resist. He explains evolution in under two minutes. Maybe I could set a story idea out of this...

So...The New Scream Series...
From Bloody-disgusting.com
http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3324057/tv-scream-series-opens-famous-drew-barrymore-scene/
[TV] “Scream” Series Opens With Famous Drew Barrymore Scene?!
One of the most infamous scenes in horror movie history came in 1996 when Drew Barrymore’s character was killed off in the opening moments of Wes Craven’s Scream. It was a shock in the fact that the audience thought Barrymore was the star of the slasher.
Now, almost 20 years later, MTV is preparing to launch “Scream” as a television series, with a new mask and a YouTube-centric plot.
Bloody reader ‘Curtis L.’ sent us a shocking rumor that we were able to confirm.
Not only has Bella Thorne, pictured below, secretly been cast in “Scream,” but she’ll be re-enacting the famous Drew Barrymore scene from the original series.
She confirmed this during a Facebook chat on Yahoo! Celebrity, “yes it is true. i will re-enact the famous scene of drew barrymore in the original series.” Her comment came via a verified account.
Now, does this mean that the “new” Ghostface killer is literally re-enacting the opening scene in Scream? This would be a truly epic meta moment that Scream fans would gush over. Or, are they literally remaking the franchise, riffing off the infamous opening sequence? We’ll find out in 2015 when the series airs on MTV.
The MTV series also stars Willa Fitzgerald, Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo (The Final Destination), Connor Weil (Sharknado) and Joel Gretsch (Witches of East End, V, The 4400). You can read about their characters here.
It’s said to center on a YouTube viral video gone wrong, which leads to adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey Jesen and will also serve as the “catalyst for a murder and opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.”

Super Zero
This come from Permuted Press. I have yet to watch the short film but it sounds cool. Check it out.
Article By Permuted Press
When Josh Hershberg, a 20 year old introverted geek culture lover is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, he believes he isn't special and has nothing to offer the world. However, on the day he decides to kill himself and end it all, a vessel carrying the first sample of liquid water discovered on Mars crashes to Earth on re-entry parking the Zombie Apocalypse.
One month later, the world has gone to hell and Josh has set off to wander through the madness alone. He stumbles upon his crush, her cousin and a wayward pizza party clown trying to find their way to safety. In the middle of a sudden Zombie attack, the three learn that Josh is immune to being a target of the undead due to his rare illness. Josh, using his comic-book/gaming/movie knowledge and engineering expertise crafts Zombie killing weapons and heroically saves the lives of his co-patriots earning him a place in their ragtag group.
In the process, Josh discovers, once and for all, you may not know what makes you special, but your time will come. And perhaps, when the biggest epic fail ever to happen to civilization triggers the rising of the dead to kill the living, one may find that there is a zombie assassin in all of us.

Surviving a Blizzard off the Grid
By Deborah D. Moore
With the recent early snow that hit the Midwest and especially Buffalo NY, I was reminded of a blizzard that hit the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, when I lived deep in the woods, totally off-grid. That kind of life-style is not for the faint of heart; it’s a lot of work, it’s dangerous and it’s also very rewarding.
Only three of the five great lakes actually join the state of Michigan: Lake Michigan, Lake Superior and Lake Huron, but those three surround us. Lakes Erie and Ontario are along the chain further east, but those also are part of Canada, as are Huron and Superior, with Lake Michigan the only one within the borders of the CONUS (Continental United States). They are also the largest bodies of fresh water in the world. Pretty awesome. Okay, enough of the geography lesson.
I recall a discussion, that was more of an argument, over the difference between snow blindness and a whiteout. A white out condition occurs during one of those blizzards. Plain and simple: you can’t see! Well, you can’t see anything except the snow falling or the snow blowing, and not being able to see anything for more than a foot or two in front of you can be pretty terrifying. It’s very easy to get lost in a blizzard. Snow blindness, on the other hand comes after the snow has stopped. The skies clear to a brilliant blue and the sun comes out … and reflects off of all that snow. It is literally blinding, and you can’t see. The major hazard is if you don’t have or find some eye protection, the intense glare can damage your eyes – permanently.
That time in the woods for me was a blizzard and snow falling at the rate of three inches per hour created a near white-out condition. It was incredibly beautiful – from inside the house that is, where I was warm and cozy with plenty to eat and drink. I did have to go out in it, and it was very unsettling to say the lease. But I had a trail to follow and it was virtually impossible to get lost, which brings up snowshoeing. It’s a great sport and a failsafe method of transportation. As long as you’re not in a blizzard, it’s impossible to get lost while on snow shoes: you just turn around and follow your tracks back!
In my first book, The Journal: Cracked Earth, the main character needs to venture out in a blizzard near dusk. This is not recommended! She made it, but I needed her for the second book, The Journal: Ash Fall.

Winters here in the UP can be brutal, with cold temperatures and heavy snows. If you understand that and prepare to deal with it, those snow falls can be beautiful. But you must also respect what can happen. Blizzards can occur in a heartbeat. Fortunately, our national weather service has been getting better at prognostication and we get sufficient warning to stay home. Our biggest variable is “lake effect”. That’s when cold air sweeps across the warmer water and picks up moisture. On the southern shore of Lake Superior (which is the northern shore of the Upper Peninsula) that’s a mighty big lake! Winds and wind direction play a big part in the amount of snow and the duration. For me, the NE winds are the worse and can double or even triple what we get. But all the great lakes can and do have lake effect snow, just ask Buffalo.

Ebola, Fact Vs Fiction
This blog entry is in no way meant to trivialize the epidemic that is currently troubling West Africa. My prayers go out to the families of all those effected, and to those being treated at the CDC today. This is simply a discussion of something I've been seeing in social media over the past week.
I have long been a fan of the work of Author J.L. Bourne. The first novel of his I read, Day By Day Armageddon, outlines the following scenario. There is an outbreak in China. The United States sends doctors and aid workers to China to assist. The outbreak gets out of control. We recall our doctors and aid workers, and a few people affected, to the CDC in Atlanta. The outbreak escapes the CDC and overruns the country. Of course this is a work of zombie fiction, a very good one I might add if you decide to pick it up one day.
A series almost all of you will at least be familiar with, The Walking Dead, is initially set around Atlanta. Season one concludes with the cast escaping the center for disease control.
So it's no surprise that with the events unfolding in West Africa, and with patients being brought back from Africa for treatment at the CDC this week, people have been posting a lot of stuff on social media. Lovers of fiction seem to feel the need to draw parallels between what's going on in current events and what's happened in the stories they all know and love.
Lets face it, there is a reason this scenario pops up so much in popular fiction. Epidemics are scary. In recent years the threat of lethal flu strains, Ebola, and a dozen other dangerous infections have been at the forefront of everyone's mind. The idea that a virus that's out of control in West Africa could become widespread in the United States legitimately frightens people. Honestly Ebola doesn't care if its in Africa, China, the US, or the middle of the United Federation of Planets. It doesn't look at race, religion, or creed. If it gets into you body, it will infect and probably kill you. Though not airborne, it is highly contagious. It is a concern, but not something to panic over.
In conclusion, this Ebola outbreak is an important news item. Mostly likely people will keep making cracks about it online for a while. It's always interesting to take a look at the effects of real life meeting fiction, and vise versa.
